Your IRIX™ software includes a variety of utilities (also called desktop tools) designed to make you more productive and to enhance your desktop environment. This guide provides instructions for using these utilities.
Chapter 2, "Using System Utilities," describes how to use the utilities, such as calculators and clocks, that are shipped with every workstation.
Chapter 3, "jot," describes how to use jot, a mouse-based text editor. jot is designed to be an editing power tool for developers. In addition, end users find jot handy because its cut-and-paste ability makes it more user-friendly and time-saving than other text editors.
Appendix A, “vi Text Editor,” describes how to use the vi text editor to edit files in the shell.
This guide assumes you are familiar with the IRIX system software and the terminology that describes it. If you are not, please refer to “IRIS Essentials” for general instructions on using the system.
