About This Guide

This guide documents the IRISconsole™ software graphical user interface for a Silicon Graphics® Indy™ workstation that allows it to control CHALLENGE/Onyx™ systems. The IRISconsole software is included in the IRISconsole package, which also includes an IRISconsole ST-1600™ multiplexer, and serial cables.

The Indy workstation communicates with the servers through the ST-1600, to which each CHALLENGE/Onyx system is connected via a pair of serial cables. Each ST-1600 has ports for eight or more CHALLENGE/Onyx systems; additional sets of serial cables are available from Silicon Graphics. Optionally, an additional ST-1600 can be connected to the Indy to monitor additional servers.

Audience

This guide is written for system administrators and service personnel who are responsible for the configurations of two or more CHALLENGE/Onyx system that the IRISconsole controls and monitors. These persons can use the IRISconsole software to monitor the attached systems.
