This section illustrates the structure of the documentation provided with
the DynaWeb server and introduces the conventions used therein.
This book is intended for anyone who uses a Web client (such as a
Mosaic or NetScape browser) to access a DynaWeb server.
The DynaWeb Client User Guide uses the following conventions:
Convention | Explanation |
|---|---|
italic | In running text, italic typeface indicates a path name, file name, or book title; for example; the dynaweb/servroot directory. In a syntax statement, italics represent a variable; for example:Syntax: /1[/n]/nHere, each instance of n represents an integer. |
bold | In running text, bold typeface indicates a keyword or command name, such as mkbook |
/ | A slash (/) represents either the next directory level in a pathname or, in an extended pointer, the next table of contents level in a book.Note: A directory pathname without a leading slash indicates that the path is relative to the DynaWeb home directory. |
\ | In a UNIX command line or an extended pointer, a backslash (\) is a continuation character, which allows a long line to wrap without a line break. |
| | In a menu command, a vertical bar distinguishes successive menu levels; for example: View|Group List |
[ ] | In a syntax statement, square brackets mean that the enclosed portion of the syntax is optional. |
. . . | In an example or syntax statement, horizontal ellipses represent omitted information; for example, part of a pathname: . . . / books |
