SGImeeting Application Sharing

Application sharing enables all conference participants to see and use any application, from a simple text editor to a spreadsheet, or complex design package. Application sharing uses an open, international standard (called T.128), which means that, for example, SGImeeting can view and control applications shared by a system running Microsoft NetMeeting for Windows NT.

When one person in the conference decides to share an application, all the other users in the conference see that application window on their system as if it were running locally. The window is "tagged" with the name of the user who shared the application.

Initially, only the person who shared the application can control it; everyone else can merely see the output in the shared window. If that person then collaborates, others are allowed to take control, although only one person can be in control at a time.

SGImeeting Whiteboard

The Whiteboard enables you to exchange ideas and graphics with other conference participants. It is fully compatible with the NetMeeting Whiteboard, allowing you to use a complete range of drawing tools and page manipulation functions.

SGImeeting Chat

Chat enables you to exchange text messages with other conference participants. Messages can either be broadcast to the whole conference, or "whispered" to a single person.

At the end of a Chat session, messages can be archived to a text file for later reference. This makes Chat a useful tool for taking minutes during a conference.

Transferring Files using SGImeeting

File Transfer enables you to exchange files during a conference with everyone else in the call.

SGImeeting Shared Clipboard

The Shared Clipboard synchronizes your X system clipboard with the clipboards of other conference participants running SGImeeting, Microsoft NetMeeting or PictureTel LiveShare Plus.

When your clipboard is shared,

data which you copy (or cut) is available to other conference participants to paste into their applications
data copied (or cut) by other conference participants who have also shared their clipboards is available to you to paste into applications running on your system.

Using Directories

An Internet Locator Server (ILS) directory contains a list of people who are currently using SGImeeting or other ILS-compatible conferencing application. This makes it easy to locate and connect to other people, either by simply browsing to see who is currently listed, or by looking up a specific person by their email address.

In order to log on to a directory, you must specify your own details, such as name, location and email address. You will be prompted for these details the first time you run SGImeeting. You can choose whether to list these details for access by everyone; if you do not, then only those people who know your email address will be able to call you via the directory.

ILS is based on the LDAP standard for directory access.
